Aspire Academy Wilson Dyslexia Tutor (Des Moines, Iowa Metro Area)

  • Are you an early morning riser and like working one-on-one with children?
  • Want a part-time job that will add meaning to your life and give it purpose?
  • Want to teach children with learning difficulties and dyslexia how to read, write and spell?
  • We will teach you the leading way to do this using the Wilson Reading System.
  • You do NOT need to be a teacher to apply!

Aspire Academy is in need of college-educated adults who can learn the Wilson Reading Program and teach students who are diagnosed with dyslexia this science-based, intensive reading program. We train you at our tutoring center, send you to classes, and provide web-based support.

We are in need of people who can work between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM Monday through Thursday.

We are looking for someone in the Des Moines Metro who is willing to learn the program and teach in-person. The job will require approximately 20-30 hours of training for the first month, and then 8-10 hours per week once training is completed.

Become an Intensive Structured Literacy Tutor (Northeast Iowa)

Learn the Leading Dyslexia Reading and Spelling Program at No Cost to You

  • Want to teach children with learning difficulties or the characteristics of dyslexia how to read, write and spell?
  • We will teach you the leading way to do this using Intensive Structured Literacy, the gold star method approved by the International Dyslexia Association.

Aspire Academy and the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque are in need of current teachers, college students or college-educated adults who can learn the reading and spelling methods that will teach students who have the characteristics of dyslexia. 

We will provide 60 hours of free training over the summer on Mondays at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD), 700 Locust Street.  75% of students who are tutored by us are on scholarship.  The training is through a generous donation by the CFGD.  This will be our third year of providing this training, and we currently tutor 40 local students, including the Peosta, Iowa area.

Part-Time Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (Central Iowa)

Are you a professional seeking family-friendly hours or a reduced workload? Do you have the ability to diagnose learning disorders in children? Aspire Academy is seeking a part-time professional who can diagnose dyslexia and oversee report writing. The desired candidate will be licensed in Iowa to diagnose learning issues in children, and have past experience diagnosing dyslexia. We anticipate two to four clients per month. The position is a contract position, with the ability to work from home when not testing children.

Who is Aspire Academy?

Aspire Academy is a learning center in Northeast and Central Iowa that addresses dyslexia with the Wilson Reading System. We are a small business, not a chain, and we focus on individual tutoring and providing a superior learning experience. All of our dyslexia tutors receive training directly from Wilson personnel. We screen for dyslexia, but we are seeking a professional who can diagnose and evaluate learning issues in children.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Test and evaluate children and adults using The Test of Dyslexia & the CTOPP-2 to diagnose dyslexia. Be licensed to use a battery of tests including the WJ-IV and similar tests.
  2. Experience and ability to document test results in a professional report that includes test, test description, results, meaning of the results, educational recommendations, 504 accommodations and IEP suggestions as needed. Aspire Academy has personnel who can assist with report writing.
  3. Experience and ability to meet and consult with parents to discuss testing needs, testing results, and report delivery. Ability to take phone calls from clients as needed.
  4. Oversee recent Speech-Language Pathology graduates in their first year of practice at Aspire Academy.
  5. Dress professionally, be punctual and attend the job during agreed upon hours.
  6. Adhere to professional ethics, background checks and drug screens if requested.
