Online dyslexia tutoring is great choice when in-person tutoring is not available. At Aspire Academy, 25% of our tutoring is delivered through one-on-one, online sessions every day. Students are assigned to one tutor, and relationships are built in a caring setting that has live instruction.. Our students look forward to their online sessions and have experienced great success. Many of our students start out well below grade-level, and struggle with reading to the point of tears, outburst and anxiety. These experiences go away with quality, online instruction.
One student’s mom described her daughter’s online tutoring experience this way: “My child loves meeting with her tutor. She now feels it is FUN to learn how to read! The online tutor routinely gives my child advice on how to understand and manage her co-diagnosis of ADHD too. Without online dyslexia tutoring, I have no doubt my child would still be below grade level in reading. She has been on grade level for the last two years and LOVES to read. In addition to reading, they spend time on writing skills, which is actually the bigger need.”
A college student who was failing most of his classes, found online dyslexia tutoring the key to overcoming his reading and writing struggles. He started at a very basic reading level, but after two years of online tutoring, he was reading sports psychology journals and thriving in his new major – Communications. This student went on to graduate with a four-year degree and believes online reading and writing tutoring were what helped him overcome his difficulties.
Online tutoring can be successful with children as young as first grade. One of our first grade students was writing complete sentences backwards, and couldn’t read the word “the.” She started out with 40-minute sessions. After two years of tutoring, she was reading and writing successfully, and graduated from tutoring. Aspire Academy has many rural Iowa students who are more than a 60 minute drive from in-person dyslexia tutoring. They have started in second grade with 45-minute sessions.. Aspire Academy focuses on building relationships during the tutoring process, building confidence in student strengths, and being very mindful of positive correction when mistakes are made. We don’t push students past their limits, and if we end lessons early, we charge only for the time used.
When a child has dyslexia, Orton-Gillingham methods are the best methods to improve their reading, writing and spelling abilities. These programs have a 60-year track record of getting children to grade-level reading. At Aspire Academy, we use the Wilson method, and we are often searched out by parents and providers needing the Wilson method.

I myself had a son who struggled with dyslexia, and he is now a college graduate working successfully in Graphic Design. Many of Aspire’s former students are now in college pursuing their dreams.
